Those of us who are drawn to any style of flowing yoga love to move. We love the freedom that movement brings. We love to get lost in our breath. More often than not, we love to sweat and feel like we have really earned our savasana. Because hard works yields great rewards?
The way I practice and teach vinyasa yoga has changed over the years. It is less about working hard and more about working well. Each pose is important but the transition to and from each pose is equally important. Precise and deliberate engagement of certain parts of the body means the practice becomes a moving mediation. We work at a level where there is cohesion between body, mind and breath. We work hard but not so hard that we feel depleted or so little that we cheat ourselves out of the benefit of the practice. In essence we need to slow down and move with care and attention. Efficiency keeps us present.
We will look at this idea of efficiency and movement in my next workshop 'Ebb & Flow' coming up on the 20 February in the Olive Tree Studio. Find out more here...
